Description
I attended the Kirtland Air Force Base 2011 Open House, and after the B-2 flyover, the USAF Thunderbirds air demonstration team performed. It was a great one-hour show as always, and there were no crashes or other problems (that my civilian eyes could see). Afterward they autographed program guides and posters.
Thanks to a great idea from an anon on 4chan, I had printed ~ShelltoonTV's Wonderbolts poster vector on photo paper and had brought it with me. They were all cool with signing it; only Capt. Holmes asked what it was. I told him they were inspired by the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels, and told him to google it. (I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall when they find out. Heck, I would LOVE to watch them watch Sonic Rainboom.)
Notice how their signatures are stacked in a triangle? It matches the delta formation they use in the show. It's little details like that which make them super awesome. Plus, with a name like Case Cunningham, how can you go through life and NOT be awesome?
#1 Commander Leader
Lt Col Case Cunningham
#2 Left Wing
Capt Ryan Riley
#3 Right Wing
Maj John Gallemore
#4 Slot
Capt Nicholas Holmes
#5 Lead Solo (the five is flipped because he performs the upside-down maneuvers)
Maj Aaron Jelinek
#6 Opposing Solo
Maj JR Williams
I also got a few ground crew signatures, plus the narrator:
#8 Advance Pilot/Narrator
Capt Kristin Hubbard
She gave the history of the Wonderb- I mean, Thunderbirds, and brought the show to life with excellently scripted, well-dramatized patter. She read through that hour-long script more than thirty times so far this season, but not a moment of it sounded tired or bored.
Thank you, Thunderbirds, for inspiring the next generation of America's fighter jockeys, as well as a certain blue pegasus.
Original Wonderbolts poster, as seen in My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, is the intellectual property of Hasbro, Inc., and was created by Lauren Faust's amazing team.
